What was the inspiration, or the seed, for this piece?

The inspiration for this piece was waking up from a really intense dream, the kind that usually would have caused sleep paralysis a decade ago, and realizing how long it had been since I'd experienced it.

People always ask how you got into writing, but what keeps you writing?

What keeps me writing is having fun with it. These days, I just follow whatever genre, form, medium, or mode feels fun to me and/or inspiring to me at that moment and I follow that feeling.

I really like the way this piece begins as if in the middle of a sentence already, it gave me the sense of an ongoing exploration of the topic (as personal, emotional, and traumatic experiences often are) -- so I wanted to ask whether this is, or is planned to be, part of a larger series of micro essays?

This isn't planned as a part of a micro essay series, but I certainly wouldn't be against the idea if it happened! This is definitely a topic that I've been exploring in my writing for a while, though, so that probably has something to do with the sense of the piece being situated in a larger project/conversation.

And, lastly, do you have any writing rituals? Say, writing snacks, or a certain setup?

I need coffee, and I generally write better in the mornings when my brain is clearest. (The fact that I drink coffee in the morning may also help!)
